We spent Saturday preparing for Hurricane Ida. We picked up all the loose stuff that accumulates around the yard, put all the potted plants in the green house, and cleared the porch of things that could catch the wind.
Sunday morning when it was clear that we were going to be in the path we double checked everything, Randy strapped down the bee hives, and I worried about the guineas. Thankfully that afternoon as the wind and rain started, they came home for treats and I was able to lock them in the coop. They weren’t happy, but I felt better.
Sunday night was a bit rough. The winds and rain picked up consistently and seemed not to let up. We lost power just after midnight. Generator kicked in and we were set.
We woke up Monday morning to a yard littered with leaves, small branches and even some major ones. The rain gauge topped out at 5 inches, and it was full. Two panels had blown out of the greenhouse, but were found, Yeah! The hardest part was that the power outage took out the cell tower too, and it seems that some the cell networks were severely compromised. We knew how it looked on TV to our loved ones, and it was hard not to be able to communicate. By about 9 am we somehow found one bar of service in parts of the driveway as we were doing a walk around and were able to send out a few texts.
We are truly blessed that we came through with such little damage.
There you go, Randy survived his first major hurricane event. Hope the next one treats us as good..
Love to all from Green Acres
